Hackathons can be overwhelming. If you don't want to build a project at the event, you don't have to! You can just attend the workshops and fun activities. We even have a prize for the hacker that attends the most events during the hackathon.

1. Work must be entirely completed during the hackathon hours.

Most Open-Minded Attendee

This challenge is for the attendee that attends the most events during the hackathon. Events include workshops, keynotes, career fairs, and fun activities. If it is on the TechTogether schedule, then it counts towards this challenge! The purpose of this challenge is to show our hackers that you don't need to build a project at a hackathon to participate and have fun. One lucky hacker will receive a LIMITED EDITION pink or blue Steminist Sweatshirt. The winner can select their preferred size and color.

Most Courageous Hack #1

This prize is for teams with 2 or more first-time hackers. Each team member will receive a Binary Beauty T-Shirt. Each winner can select their preferred size and design.

Most Courageous Hack #2

This prize is for teams with 2 or more BIPOC-identifying hackers. Each team member will receive a Dress Code Sweatshirt. Each winner can select their preferred size and design.

Most Courageous Hack #3

This prize is for teams with 2 or more hackers that are currently enrolled or recently graduated from a Bootcamp (or training program) or community college. Each team member will receive a Binary Beauty T-Shirt. Each winner can select their preferred size and design.

Best High School Hack

The best hack created by a team consisting of all high school students. Each team member will receive a $25 Gift for Goods virtual gift card.

The Prettiest Hack

This prize is for the hack with the best design and UI/UX. Each team member will receive a Marynguyenco t-shirt. Each winner can select their preferred size and design.

The Ultimate Failed Hack

This prize is for the team who dreamed big and failed hard. Each team member will receive a EllaTeeCo T-Shirt. Each winner can select their preferred size and design.

Best Socioeconomic Hack

Innovate a solution to New York City’s most pressing issues in the social and economic realm, from helping its residents find affordable and spacious housing, to creating jobs and minimizing unemployment for its population, to reducing poverty and homelessness for the less fortunate, to improving education access and quality for all youth, and more. Each winner will receive an Amazon Echo Dot.

Best Creative Arts & Media Hack

New York City is a melting pot of creative inspirations and diverse perspectives, overflowing with various art, music, and media styles (Broadway, street art, jazz, subway performers, The New York Times & Wall Street Journal and more!). Create a hack that flexes your creativity to support, expand, and show love for the arts and media industry in NYC! Each winner will receive a Polaroid Originals OneStep+ Instant Film Camera.

Best Productivity & Accessibility Hack

New York City is known for its fast-paced culture and high performing workforce, but also its convenience and access to opportunity. Develop a hack that will speed up the productivity of its population, make everyday resources more accessible to communities, and expand opportunity for all individuals. Best Wellness Hack

The pandemic was a unified struggle for New York City as it disrupted lives of everyone in this energy-bound city: from darkening Broadway to quieting subway platforms to creating job and housing troubles. As the city emerges from this difficult period, its people are, more than ever, in need of tools to navigate this chaotic and energetic pace of recovery. Innovate a hack to support the mental health and wellness of the NYC population. Each winner will receive a Nintendo Switch Lite.

Best Infrastructure Hack

As the daily routine and glamorous tourism of New York City are reinvigorating, its public transportation systems are back in operation and its famous architecture and attractions are being visited and admired again. Yet, the influx of city-goers and tourists can lead to environmental problems including air pollution from vehicles, increased energy usage, and more littering of the streets and waterways. Create a hack to improve NYC’s infrastructure: from boosting efficiency and accessibility of public transportation to improving design and maintenance of architecture to solving its most urgent environmental troubles. Each winner will receive a computer monitor.

Best Financial Hack with Capital One

Capital One would like to challenge TechTogether New York to create the best financial hack. Money impacts much of our lives and we would like to promote change for good. The winning team members will be awarded $200 Amazon gift cards.

Best Data Hack with Travelers

In the Insurance industry, data is at the core of what we do. Data provides important insights into our business, our customers, our company and our systems. Data helps inform decision making at every level. In addition to the Insurance industry, technology solutions using artificial intelligence capabilities are being used to solve some of our most complex problems worldwide. Our challenge is simple : design and build an artificial intelligence application with data as the core element of your solution to help solve a problem of your choice. Each team member will receive Beats Solo3 Wireless headphones (in RED).

Microsoft Cloud Hackathon Challenge

The best use of the Microsoft Cloud for social good. The Microsoft Cloud is comprised of the following products: Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Power Platform, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Github or LinkedIn.
Prize Details: LinkedIn Learning 1-year membership (1 per team member), Xbox 1-year Ultimate Game Pass (1 per team member), $250 Azure Credit (1 per team member), and $500 contribution to approved charity (1 per team).

  • Originality
    Originality, Does it do something entirely novel, or at least take a fresh approach to an old problem?
  • Execution
    Is the hack usable in its current state? Is the user experience smooth? Does everything appear to work? Is it well designed?
  • Usefulness
    Is the hack practical? Is it something people would actually use? Does it fulfill a real need people have?
  • Presentation
    How well was the project presented? Did it make the hack more compelling? Did it give a good idea of its purpose?
  • Learning
    Did the team stretch themselves? Did they try to learn something new? What kind of projects have they worked on before?
